Healthy gingiva in a young person
The gingiva is a part of the oral mucosa. Gingivae begin at the mucogingival line, overlie the crowns of the alveolar bone and encircle the necks of each tooth. The alveolar process extends almost to the cementoenamel junction. Interdental spaces are completely filled by interdental papillae. Healthy gingiva is described as pink or salmon, it is firm in consistency and has an orange peel- like texture called stippling.
